Digital Photography - Digging Deeper Into Photography

This course will deal with learning how to use light effectively for more pleasing or dramatic photos. You will learn the characteristics of light including how light can be controlled and recognizing when it can't. Lessons will deal with the various types of light, controlling what you can and learning how to use what you cannot. Using real photos with technical flaws, the concepts of exposure, metering, exposure compensation and depth of field will be covered. You will learn to use all these concepts to improve their photography and gain understanding in how to repeatedly get the results they want. The course will conclude with a session on finding neutral tones and using them for proper camera adjustment. For this course students should be familiar & comfortable with their cameras and use of controls. Those with more advanced point & shoot models or digital SLRs will get the most benefit from the course simply because they will have more controls available to them, but it really doesn't matter what type of camera they have. Having taken previous photography courses is a plus but certainly not a requirement. The course will also include an in-class, hands-on exercise so please bring your cameras and manuals to the second class.
