Invitational Leadership Development Program

This program is labeled an “invitational” program because it is open to individuals and small groups from multiple organizations for participants at the appropriate managerial level. Registration is made through the individual’s sponsoring company or organization. UNF works with each organization to confirm that the program is appropriate for the designated participants. Dr. Resnick personally facilitates all sessions.

Invitational Leadership Development Program structure:

  • Seven full day modules, held once per month, over seven months
  • All program materials are included – manuals, PowerPoint presentations, Harvard Business Review articles, instruments, selected books, etc.
  • The instructor is available to the participants between modules for feedback and coaching via email and phone conference calls
  • All meals are provided

Customized Internal Leadership Development Program

If an organization has at least fifteen individuals who would benefit from leadership development, an internal program might be the most appropriate solution. The internal Leadership Development Program follows the same overall structure as the invitational program, with the following additional advantages:

  • Because all the participants are part of the same organization, a significant amount of team development occurs as a natural part of the implementation of the program
  • The program can be customized to address specific areas of interest to the organization such as strategic planning, organizational change, continuous improvement, performance management or other company initiatives
  • The participants work on real-time issues as the modules evolve. Learning is applied directly and the sponsoring organization gains immediate benefit from the real work accomplished as well as the development of the senior individuals and senior team
  • With fifteen or more participants (maximum of 30) the internal program is more cost-effective on a per participant basis than individual registrations in the invitational program

Executive Assessment

Selecting the right people and giving them the right job to do is critical for the success of a senior team. Understanding the development needs of leadership team members is also equally essential for success.

Senior managers are typically hired because of their background and expertise – what they have done in the past. But their success is also based on their ability to work effectively with others, which is driven largely by their emotional intelligence.

How is emotional intelligence assessed in the hiring or promotion process? And how is emotional intelligence developed to enhance an individual’s performance and productivity?

A great deal of research has been conducted over many years about emotional intelligence and a wide variety of tools are available to both assess and develop individuals. Individual tools assess cognitive competence, emotional intelligence, personal and interpersonal style, management and leadership style. These tools are excellent predictors of future behavior in different settings and provide clear guidance for individual coaching and development. Team tools often include a 360 degree feedback process.

Executive Assessment provides assessment, feedback and development opportunities for senior personnel at both an individual and team level. Tools and subsequent coaching opportunities are custom-designed for each participating individual and organization.

Executive Team Development

There are many senior level work groups but few real senior teams. This distinction causes many senior teams to sub-optimize their performance and miss the opportunity for full synergy. The whole is something less than the sum of the parts.

The opposite is also true. When the senior leaders of an organization know how to work together for their common success, appreciate their need for each other and have a dynamic relationship that demands the best of each of them the results can be astonishing.

Executive team development is a defined process for creating a high performing senior team. Real team development is far more than golf outings and social events. It engages the individuals as a team in defining their vision and their purpose. It clarifies roles and responsibilities. It develops ways of making decisions and sharing accountability that significantly raise the performance bar, while performing real work. The outcome is not only a high performing team, but a team that has accomplished meaningful real work in the process.

The Executive Team Development process is customized for each senior team, depending on the nature of the goals, the individuals involved and the work to be performed. In general, the process consists of one full day of work for the team once a month over a four month period.

Executive Peer Roundtable

The role of an executive can be lonely. There are often issues that a CEO is uncomfortable discussing with his/her team. Finding peers who will listen, understand and provide useful feedback and counsel can be very difficult. Faced with these issues and the day-today pressures of running a business, most CEOs simply do their best with the information they have available to them.

To fill this gap, UNF Executive Development is establishing a roundtable of selected CEOs and Presidents to provide a support network to each other. Participants should be owners, CEOs or Presidents of organizations with an annual revenue of $5 to $50 million dollars.

The program will be scheduled for one calendar year. A maximum of 20 individuals will form a group, and no direct competitors will be placed in the same group.

The group will meet monthly from 8 – 11 a.m. including breakfast. The sessions will be designed to include three segments:

  • Questions or issues that anyone wishes to bring before the group for feedback or discussion
  • A guest speaker who will bring new learning to the group each month
  • One of the participants will be selected each month as the “case study” – providing an opportunity to bring any issue or opportunity forward for collective group discussion, feedback and peer consultation.

The process will be facilitated by one of the UNF executive consultants who will remain with the group throughout the process. Supplemental on-site consulting is also available.
